As you may know, the Eden team has been hard at work to improve our copyright policies. The author tutorial and FAQs have been improved and updated, the team thoroughly briefed, and now we need your help.
For the next month we are asking every author to review all of their files and update any file that is not strictly copyright compliant. We have created a new Copyright Compliance Document (PDF) that outlines Eden's new copyright requirements. The document includes definitions, examples and a checklist to make this issue simpler for everyone.
We urge every author to download this new Copyright Compliance Document (PDF) and familiarize themselves with Eden's new requirements so you can make more money, we can expand and can continue to grow this fantastic community.
The future of Eden depends on the copyright compliance of every file. Copyright is becoming a hot issue, and technologies are improving to track copyright infringements down. Photography websites now include codes in their photographs and systems trawl the internet to turn up these codes anywhere they should not be. FlashDen is now large enough that files 'inspired' by other files are often reported within 24 hours of their approval by the copyright holder of the original file.
We don't say this to be dramatic or threatening, but because as a community it is essential that we understand that Eden is large enough and technology advanced enough that any copyright violation will be unearthed eventually. And when it does, Eden has no choice but to ban the offending author and their files. In some cases we hate to do it, but in order to protect Eden and the other authors we must.
Amnesty on Files
But never fear ‐ we have a plan! For the next month we will be holding an amnesty on all files already on the site. As an author we are asking you to take this month to upgrade any files that need to be improved. Get rid of anything that shouldn't be there and send us your revised files. Soon we will have a special Upgrade Queue, but in the meantime all our reviewers will be working tirelessly to upgrade any files you send through.
To upgrade a file, simply upload the new file on the Uploads page. Include a note to the reviewers that this is a file upgrade, and the name and link to the file on Eden to be upgraded. The reviewers will do the rest, and will email you when the update is completed.
Please note that if we receive a complaint in the amnesty period we will still follow our usual copyright infringement processes and the file will be disabled immediately. This amnesty is designed to allow you to learn about copyright and fix or remove your own files if needed.
This amnesty begins today and will end on the 15th of March 2008. On the 16th of March we will be reviewing every file on the site. Any copyright infringing material will be removed without warning, and the author banned. Please understand this is not what we want to do, but it is essential for the future of Eden.
Happily, there is an easy solution. Simply go through your files and check that they're fully copyright compliant. If they're not, remove or update them.
