XML Portfolio Template v3.3

This is my latest installment of my XML Portfolio Template. This version has a great deal of upgrades and added features. XML Portfolio Template v3 is a full Flash website completely managed by XML files that use modules to control content. You can easily use this project to make many different kinds of websites with small amounts of customization. Adding and changing your content is super easy. The code is well commented and you can see for yourself how things work by viewing the help file.

Planned updates:

v3.4 – coming soon
  • Enable scroll-wheel functionality in all appropriate areas
  • Fix jerky navigation animation
  • Update Scrolling Gallery to have large image and video displays
  • Allow multiple animation configurations from the config.xml so you can have more than just the sliding effect
  • Ability to have the main and submenus to open external links
  • Make creating multiple galleries more intuitive and easy

Hi all,

Ok, im a Flash noob, so please forgive the noobness of my question, but id be really pleased if anyone could help or advise..

From the manual “text – Displays a text block and a side image, information should be stored in an xml file in the /text folder such as about.xml”

Im trying to get the template to read content generated elsewere other than the /text folder. For example http://www.mysite/somefile.xml.

Pasting in the url like above doesnt work, and the template only reads from the /text folder.

Is there any way to enable external xml files to be read?

If you want to have a slideshow (a swf) playing in the background instead of a static image, you’ll need to change (line 319) smoothImageLoad(backgroundImage,background_mc.target_mc); to loadMovie(“myBackgroundFile.swf”, background_mc.target_mc);

Doesn’t work. flash says unknown with a pop up error window. loadMovie(“myBackgroundFile.swf”, background_mc.target_mc); not allowed.

would be great to get this working.

HELP ! I changed the background code to swf got an error and un-did it and re exported to main.swf now just the slide show come up.

Says undefined in bottom left corner.

GOT IT ! In the config file where I put the swf from imgae1 didn’t change back when i hit un do.

DOH !

Still want that to work. SWF for background.

I’m hoping to tweak the news module so that when i click on the “year” instead of just the news list changing, it would load the latest news of that “year”.

I’m thinking that its a couple of lines i have to add in the onclick function of the years portion of the code. I’m still learning AS. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Ok I wanted to adjust the size of the slideshow images that play on the opening page. I changed the size of contentbackground_mc in main.fla to what I want. I changed the size of the image files in the slideshow file t match. when the slide show starts the pictures don’t align correctly, I know I have to change something in home.fla, but what?
