XML Driven Accordion Perfect file to function as a portfolio viewer, mini-site or maybe even for navigational purposes. An easy to use accordion that you can give any size you want just by adjusting the XML file.

With the XML file you can add as many tabs as you want. From the XML you can the following to a tab:
  • A label for the tab bar.
  • A title and description for the text area.
  • An image or swf as the content for the tab.
  • A URL for each tab when clicked on.
You can also change the following parameters from the XML file:
  • The width and height of each tab and thus the size of the accordion
  • The height of the text area, which automatically adjusts the text field height inside it
  • The alpha transparency of the text area
  • The tween time (in seconds). The time it takes the tabs to slide

The textfield title and description also support HTML formatting. By placing the text in between the CDATA tags, you can e.g. give you text another font colour. The XML file contains a good example of how it’s done.

The accordion itself is a simple movieclip and thus can be add to your project by just copying the accordion mc and the acoordion folder to your library. Then just attach the accordion mc to the stage and you are good to go. Placing the accordion on stage is also shown in the file itself.

Very nice. Would be nice to add: The selected tab be different color or transparency, so as not to be confused which tab you are viewing.

Very good idea diveloper. I might add this when I have some time, as an update.

I bought and like this file .. .thx. I would love it to link from the content (as it does) but clicking on the actual tab initiated the tween (slide) rather than only a mouse over. This could maybe be an option in the xml?

I think less computer saavy people might find that easier to navigate the content.

@ddrinkal I have an onClick version lying around somewhere. I was experimenting with it. I might be able to make an XML option out of it. You will have to give me some time to make it though, cause I’m busy as hell. I’ll try to do so tomorrow. Send me an e-mail through my profile, so I have your e-mail address. Then I can send it to you.

LoL it’s getting too late for me to reply: onClick hahaha. I meant onPress ;)

Also can I gave no link from a panel or tab? If i remove or leave it blank i get ‘undefined’

Ok ddrinkal. I have made a seperate version so that tweening happens not when rolling over, but when clicked. I haven’t made it an option in the XML to be able to switch between the rolling over or the clicking(but made a seperate version), cause it will take more work. This one is on the house. Having 2 versions, you can choose which one you want. The click version of course doen’t load the link until the tab is clicked on again. The new click version also includes the option to not set a link. By just adding the text nolink in between the URL brackets, like so: http://www.pastie.org/269245

I don’t know if you have sent me a message through my profile, but i have not received an email yet. Just leave your e-mail here or send me an email: yvotieleman[at]yahoo[dot]com then I will send you the file. Please state wether you want a flash 8 or CS3 version.

Of course all others that have bought this file, can also request this version!
