The Looking Glass XML Image Gallery

A simple, easy-to-use, and unique XML image gallery that fits all window sizes. You can have as many images as you want. Images scroll from left to right depending on horizontal mouse position. On rollover, the images quick-zoom into the center. On click, descriptions will appear. All controlled by a simple XML file.

Note: Images can be any size you wish, but all the images in the file must be the same size (otherwise, they will just be cropped). You set the size of your images in the XML .

The Looking Glass V2 Looped also available.

Exellent!!!!!! Very good work keep it up

This was good looking! Is it also possible to link the images to another pages?

Posted 4 months ago

Nick67: Yes, of course, you could create a double click event, or a button above each image, or something else I’m not thinking of right now… :)

Thanks everyone for your support and comments. I’m glad to hear these positive responses, especially since the file isn’t working correctly! Normally it works better – normally it will take up the full browser area and then scroll on mouse position so you can see the rest of it. It isn’t working because for some reason, FlashDen doesn’t support SWF Object. :s But I’ve contacted them about it and hopefully it should be fixed pretty soon.

The file is now fixed and correct as I intended.

I’ve just purchased this file and, first off, it’s awesome. I’m only having problems with one thing. I’m trying to take the generated swf file and import it into another flash file, but with little success. Is there anything I should be aware of with this file with regards to importing the swf.

I’ve done it before with other files, this one’s just not going.

Thanks in advance.

lineshift: going to send you a message / email…

Posted 4 months ago

Okay, lineshift, too bad you don’t have any contact info. Loading in and out swf can be tricky, but it should be okay. Of the top of my head I can think of two issues that might potentially cause errors – one, make sure the caurina folder and files are still in the same directory as the swf, and two, make sure if you’re loading the swf into something, you take the preloader out, or modify the initial loading of itself (with the root.addEventListener…;) Please email me with more info – if not, I hope that helps a little. Thanks.

Is there a way to disable the wobble effect and have it only scroll back and forth? It might be a little too fancy for what I have in mind (art gallery “wall”;).

Also, is there a way to make it so that it just enlarges to the full size on one mouseclick, instead of having to hover to get the bigger picture? Thank you.

Sorry posted to wrong place. I mean to ask if the pictures can have different widths, and if the description can contain a link. Thank you!

Christian,

Thanks for the follow up. I reverted to simply posting it within an HTML table for now. I would like to figure out the swf loading issue at leisure, I’m not actionscript savvy, so I know it will take some time to figure out all the essentials. I will definitely email you.

The other thing I was wondering was exactly what damsel is asking. Can the descriptions contain a link to an external html page or site?

Thanks Again…

damsel: Currently what’s supported is basically what you see. You can have a link, but you will have to enable the text field as an htmlText field. You can disable the wobble effect and have it zoom on mouse click instead of hover, but you will have to change the action script listeners and functions for that – AS3 knowledge will be need – this isn’t supported dynamically. However, the pictures can have different widths, this is supported dynamically through XML .

I’ve had a few enquiries about The Looking Glass asking if they could have the file without the mouse position movement, just a continuous loop of the images slowly moving across the stage. I will be making this and putting it up soon. :) Thanks.

damsel: Just making sure there are no misunderstandings: you can have the images any size you want, but each image in the file has to be the same, if for example image 2 in the set is wider than the 1st, it will be cropped off – you set the width and height of the images (all images) in the XML . Thanks.

is the AS3 codes done in external class structure or the timeline? I bought several AS3 on flash den which are done on timeline, pretty crappy stuff…
