This is an AS3 .fla file which creates a dynamic star field, (try to update your browser), including shooting stars.
- The graphics are all vector based - A help section can be found in the .fla file - All code is commented well - The number of stars and “gas/clouds” generated can easily be changed

It would probably look a lot better without the moon imo.

Nice effect
Just a few “inaccuracies” (other than the random constellations) for anyone wanting to “keep it real” ... On one refresh stars were generated in front of the moon 
There should not be stars in front of the dark part of the moon because all stars are much further away than the moon. That dark part of the moon may not be visible against the night sky but it does obscure stars (except “shooting stars” which aren’t really stars but meteors moving through Earth’s atmosphere so they are always appear in front of the moon.
Also .. the moon could only appear in that phase when the sun is still quite high in the sky (think where the sun would have to be to illuminate the moon like that) so it would be too bright to see any stars in the sky with the moon in that phase.
