Image Vertical Menu

OXYLUS

This is a xml driven menu, that can be easly customized using the xml file, to open urls or to trigger gotoAndStop actions on certain movieclips. It can have an unlimited number of items. Graphics can be easely changed by editing the library items. It also supports adding images as icons for each menu item, in the xml file.

this is a great file, everything you need from fonts to pics to help files are included and well documented.

i do have one question though… hopefully you can point me in the right direction…. i altered the menu’s size to fit my purposes, and also wanted to change the display size of the xml-loaded images to fit my new dimensions. I changed the size of the ‘picture’ movieclip, but it only alters the size of the dark gray box while the xml-loaded image stays the same.

is there a way to change the size of these?

hi, Open MenuItem.as and find these two lines:


        Img._width = 25;
        Img._height = 18;

(line 96 and 97)

Modify those sizes with the one you desire.

I have addded this to a child movie clip but cannot get menu items to show up…the title bar displays but nothing else. When I load the child into my _root clip, i dont get any xml data loading…also the width and height parameters i have set work when testing the child but get lost upon loading into the root file….all files are in the same directory

hi, i am really new to the action script3 and your help file is probably already answering my question which is how can i trigger the menu items to load swfs’ on the main timeline (root of my main flash file)? i have an 2 empty movie clips on my root timeline and i want to load into them 2 swf files—on clicking the menu items.(so each item would load 2 different swfs’ into the same empty movie clips, into the same level). also, i wish the menu to be activated/visible only by clicking another button. should i load it as a separate movie clip? how would that affect the code i asked for above? thanx

You should copy the library items into your project, than drag the place holder located on the stage onto you project’s stage, than use the same script to load the xml for the menu.

@rada currently the menu only opens urls or triggers gotoAndStop actions on movieclips located on your stage.

@ripcurlksm Sorry , it only works with the xml structure that you found in the package.

Maybe you could use a php script to generate the xml file for the menu, from a rss feed. Unfortunately, I’m not fammiliar with php so I can’t help you with the script but that would be a good workaround

Hi,

How do you control the speed of the scrolling? It’s ok when there are a few items in the xml but when you have 100+ items it goes too fast. Thanks

I just registered on your forum but I cannot log in to my account (I think it’s not active yet), that’s why I’m leaving this questions here.

1. I inserted the file inside of one of my pages and it works great, but the weird thing is as soon as I will turn off Flash 8 and then turn it back on and preview the file, on mouse over the words dissapearing from the .swf file. And now the .swf file is getting corrupt, I had to redo all my work with .fla file and again the same story. I can sand to you my .fla file so you will be able to see it for yourself.

2. When I redid it second time I make a copy of uncorrupted file and loaded it to the website. By some reason it doesn’t work. Here is the link: http://www.vandtdance.com/ (Go to “Schedules and Downloads” page) It looks like the .xml doesn’t want to load.
