CYCLING WORDS

HomeBrowse CategoriesAnimationsText AnimationCycling Words

This is a simple effect to animate your any word. You can use it as an introduction to your movie by just adding a “Skip Intro” button if you want.

There are 10 attributes you can control from the xml file. If you don’t put them via xml then the defaults given in the action script are used.

a. appearspeed – default(20) – appear speed for the alpha of the word on the start
b. showdelay – default(50) – no. of frames to wait before showing each word
c. staycount – default(150)- no. of frames the word should stay
d. usexmlcolors – default(true)- set if the use of xml colors is allowed
e. usexmllinks – default(true) – set if the use of xml links is allowed
f. radius – default(50) – set the rotation circle radius
g. rotation – default(2) – speed of rotation of the character
h. rounds – default(1) – no. of rounds the character should take before going to the final position
i. placementspeed – default(5) – the speed with which each character comes back to its position after rounds have been completed
j. charspacing – default(-5) – character spacing between each character

As soon as you change any of the above ten attributes, the animation gets adjusted. So, you can make many kinds of cool affects with this file. For seeing an example, click the buttons at the top of the preview. The buttons don’t appear in the main file. I have attached the preview file too, if this helps anyone… :)

You can also make the words behave as links by giving the link urls and target via xml. And each word can be assigned a different color.

There are two kinds of things. 1. You can animate a number of words together to make it appear like an introduction to your movie. For this, the words are loaded from an external xml file and the symbol name is “words”. 2. You can make any of your word appear with this effect by using the symbol “word” and giving it a word you want… wordmoviename.word = “FLASHDEN”; and also applying the settings too.

If you use the “words” symbol then the space for showing the words gets resized automatically as soon as you resize the Stage of the flash movie.

You can also try changing the font style in the “char” symbol.

Hi – this is a great effect. I just bought it. I am having trouble figuring out how to do this part: “You can make any of your word appear with this effect by using the symbol “word” and giving it a word you want… wordmoviename.word = “FLASHDEN”; and also applying the settings too.”

I figured out how to use the word symbol (instead of the words symbol). But I cannot figure out how to make that symbol use my own word (it just says FLASHDEN ) and how to make it so the xml settings are used as well.

Thanks!

Thank you so much my friends!

For jeffmrosen: Thanks for purchasing the file.

The xml file is for the “words” symbol. The “words” symbol loads all the words and settings from the xml file and then does the animation accordingly.

To use only a single word. Drag and drop the “word” symbol on the stage. Then name it with some name… for eg. “wordmovie”... now assign it the settings and the word…

wordmovie.word = “MY NEW WORD ” ;
wordmovie.radius = 50 ;
wordmovie.rotation = 2 ;
wordmovie.rounds = 1 ;
wordmovie.placementspeed = 5 ;
wordmovie.charspacing = -5 ;

The single word movie has only 5 settings to be applied logically, the other 5 settings are for the full “words” movie.

You can put as many single words on the stage as you want. But, they should have different names.

Rehmat -

Thanks for you help. I still can’t quite get it to work. This is what I did: Drop “word” onto stage. Named that layer “wordmovie” – but I am not sure how to rename the word symbol on the stage?. Then I right clicked the keyframe and selected Actions. Under Scene 1, I selected “wordmovie: Frame 1” and then typed in the settings you listed into the scripting area:

wordmovie.word = “MY NEW WORD ” ; wordmovie.radius = 50 ; wordmovie.rotation = 2 ; wordmovie.rounds = 1 ; wordmovie.placementspeed = 5 ; wordmovie.charspacing = -5 ;

Saved the fla file. Selected control > Test Movie. The swf still plays the default value from the original word movie (not my “MY NEW WORD ”;).

I am not sure what I am doing wrong?? Thanks again for your help on this.

Hi Jeff!

You have put the code on the right place. But, you didn’t name the “word” symbol. You just renamed the layer. To name the “word” symbol that you drop on the stage… first select it… to select… click the symbol that you dropped on the stage… it will just be a small white dot. After you select it… open the property toolbox and write the name “wordmovie” in the “Instance Name” text box and press enter. Now test the movie and it will just go fine.

Also, please name the layer as “wordmovie” as you have done previously for your convenience as because, otherwise you will see “Layer1(or 2 or so on): Frame 1” on the code window and you may get confused with that. So, remember you have to rename both the layer and the “word” symbol on the Stage (not in the library). If you still find any problem in doing that then please just e-mail me and I will send you a file with an example.
