ITEM DISCUSSION

Show Comments By

I like this script. It works fine in Chrome and Safari, but it doesnt work in firefox and IE. It seems that it displays in firefox the flash main.swf correctly, but doesnt load any external images or swf etc. I dont know what to do. Do I need to change something in the main.swf or somewhere else?

Looking for help!

I was wondering how I could change the absolute position of the text area that scrolls in. As far as I can see, the only options are to have it scroll in from left, right, top or bottom, but in my particular project, the text is too close to the SWF buttons at the bottom of the banner. I’d like to be able to move it up 20 or 30 pixels. I tried adding 200 to the XML file to see if I could get it to re-align the position, but no success.

Also, I can get URLs / hyperlinks to execute - either through clicking on the image, or clicking on hyperlinks in the text area. Although, I suspect that this MAY be because I am running the file locally and the browser is preventing me from executing external links.

michaeltesmith – If you havnt already looked at the Advanced Text Position and Advanced Text Width options, you can find info in the support pages. If you have, then no there isn’t.

For the url thing, try uploading it first.

hi I would like to hide the navigation. Is there away?

loaded – Have you tried not placing any buttons paths in the xml file?

Hey Skial it works!

I managed to hide the buttons by not planing any button XML tab. I seem to get a 2 px of horizontal line across the swf file during the transition between images. It is happening here too.

Can there be a bug in the swf file?

Thanks.

loaded – That line at the bottom is the preloader bar, which fires each time when the next content is loading.

I just realise the banner doesn’t support animated gif. Its that correct?

Posted 2 months ago

loaded – Flash doesn’t support animated .GIF files, the only way flash supports it is by importing it into Flash CS3 , and flash will take each frame of the .GIF and place them onto a individual frame in the timeline.

There is one library that can play animated .GIF file, you can find it here

I am attempting to use the script but am having trouble with the slide navigation (numbers) disappearing in IE when the page is refreshed. Works fine in Firefox, Opera and Safari but the numbers and play/pause vanish when I refresh the page in IE. Please help. Thanks.

rstartt – Can you tell me if you are using SWFObject to embed the .SWF file? Also you could try opening main.fla and changing sw and sh variables from stage.stageWidth / stage.stageHeight to the width and height you want the .SWF file to be.

Looks like this – sw = stage.stageWidth; sh = stage.stageHeight

You can find that on line 58.

Skial, I am indeed using SWFObject to embed the .swf. I can post the JS and markup if you would like to see.

I will attempt to adjust the stageheight and stagewidth as you suggest and you let you know if I have success.

Thanks for the quick response.

Is there a way to fix the IE7 bug of the text being loaded to the wrong quadrant of the banner?

Posted about 1 month ago

he2cool – Can you email me through my FlashDen Profile page to talk more about this.

rstartt – Try the stageheight and stagewidth method first and let me know how you get on.

Skial, Giving numeric dimensions to stageheight and stagewidth corrected the problem in IE7 . They now show when refreshed. Thanks much.

Skial, I looked through the support files but cannot find how do something I am attempting to do.

In the first slide on this page (the red .swf) there does not seem to be a URL for entire image specified in the XML . I would like to do this and have multiple links from the .swf that I create to go into the place. In other words, for “image 1” I will have a .swf and inside that .swf with be several buttons that link to different areas as opposed to having the entire “image” link to one location. How do I do this?

rstartt – Emails have been sent.

Is there an updated version of this script that addresses some of the issues stated in previous comments?

Also, is there a way to give an absolute URL for the images and the XML file? It seems that everything needs to be in the same directory structure it came in for it to all work properly. I cannot even rename the XML file. I would like to use the script in multiple locations on the site and have them call on individual setting files without having to upload the script multiple times.

Rpent001 – Can you tell me which issues you are talking about?

Also, the file paths dont have to be the same as they are when you downloaded the file. You can see the path to the xml file through the FlashVars property, check the documentation to find that out. This then in turn allows you to place more than one copy of main.swf on different parts of the website, and they each call a different xml file which is supplied through their Flashvars property.

Again, pointing to a different xml file allows you to store pictures in different locations.

You can find this info on the documentation.

Please note that while you are able to use a .swf for one of the slides you CANNOT use any actionscript in your .swf. There is some coating above the .swf that does not allow you any additional interactivity with the .swf. I need to include 6 buttons within a .swf in 2 slides that link to different parts of a site but I am not able to do this with this model. If anybody can assist me modifying the piece to do this it would be much appreciated.

rstartt – I’m sorry you are not happy with the file, but the file was never intended to allow for more interactivity beyond what it was design to do.

That being said, I have spent alot of extra, free personal time adding features for customers, which has added more features than I originally intended.

I have also answered every email making sure that the file you are working with isn’t at fault, as I can not know how every other persons files are coded, or if they work.

Also with a months gap from the last email you sent to me, you can not be in urgent need to get your project finished.

Not knowing what your project needs to do, I guess the built in buttons that this file allows you to create and position are not suitable for your project.

Also, please remember, by FlashDen rules, Authors don’t have to provide any help at all, and most Authors have a limit on how much help they provide to customers, as it is their free time they are providing for no extra income.

I haven’t specified once that I would not help you with your problem, but I need to ask questions to make sure first that my file is not at fault, when I can say yes, my file is causing problems, I will try and set my own free time aside to see if I can fix the issue you have with the file.

Very difficult to work with. Poor ways to embed in. And i’m not a begginer. Think again before buying this!

Posted 4 days ago

fishtank – Sorry you feel that way. You could have emailed me or commented asking for help with any problems you have faced before giving up completely?

If possible, would you be able to tell me the issues you had with embedding this file so I can then help any other future customer that may have similar problems like you?

everyone – If people are having any problems, then please comment here or email me through my FlashDen profile page and I will do my best to help you.

For peoples knowledge, embedding will only cause an issue with this file or any other flash file, if (1) the browser causes know issues, IE for example, (2) the user has embedded the file incorrectly, and (3) in rare cases has a corrupt install of Flash Player.

SWFObject is the best option to embed with as it deals with most common issues. The example shown at the top of the page is embedded with SWFObject and works fine and is embedded by FlashDen, not me.
