QUESTION ABOUT REFERRALS

Hiya, Just wondering…was thinking about this today. You know the way you get half of the amount of money that someone deposits into their account if they sign up using your link…well whats stopping people just lodging $20 to their account, spending it, and then when they want to buy another thing, use their own referral link, and make a new account, and put another $20 in that rather than putting it into their current one.

That way they get $20 and a free $10 which they can spend on more stuff and it looks like they have referred a person, but they have in fact just referred themselves and got half of their money back.

Hope that makes sense. I was just wondering if you guys thought of that or not

You’re asking a very good question, one we asked our selves quite a while ago

We have a multi-layered fraud prevention/detection/response system in place (the exact details of which I don’t want to go into on the forums).

We’re also quite fortunate in that Paypal invest a large amount of money and time into fraud protection and response, so the combination of Paypal and our own work tends to cover us fairly well over a broad number of, well, just generally sketchy scenarios.

Thanks a lot though for letting us know though, it’s quite nice to see a user pick a potential flaw and let us know than try and do the dodgy on us.
