Just wondering if any FD authors have been pleasantly or unpleasantly surprised by the sales reaction to their product.

I mean have you ever released a file that you thought was a sure fire hit only to have it largely ignored? Or conversely have you released something that you thought was just ok only to have it sell really well?

Yes, but I am getting a better feel for what sells well.

sure thing, but I`m in the video section; video is sort of hit and miss, and maybe because nobody knows how the file really looks full size, and they sort of guess what they`ll buy. With flash is pretty much simple: just do a nice, stylish template, or a good gallery/portfolio showcase, and you`re set.

It comes with author’s experience, pretty much base on customer’s taste and demand.

Yeah true, video is hit or miss. However some files that i thought were some of my better files haven’t sold at all. But hey i don’t know what people want or are looking for so if anyone has a request i will welcome it and create it if i think it will sell. My latest file i think is a hit so i guess I’ll find out in the next few days if it truly is.

I’ve only sold things that I made for people (with the understanding that the code would be re-used/re-sold) or things that I’ve made for myself with the intent to re-use them in my future projects (aka. my personal asset library).

In other words, everything I’ve posted here is something I would have made anyway so I can’t really be dissapointed with sales.

I am disappointed by the lack of interest in video loops also. I feel flash video loops has a big future but it won’t really catch on until more people have faster 2nd generation broadband connections. Then flash sites can look more like DVD menus.

Sometimes I don’t understand why files sell so well.

For eg The Bobocel FLV player 14 has 788 sales.

No doubting it’s a fine piece of work but why so popular?

Who the hell needs a FLV player? There’s a ton of them around. I mean seriously, is this thing doing something that I don’t understand? Did it supply a ground breaking feature?

I wonder if Bobocel knew it would go through the roof like that? That’s what I call “kicking a goal” (big time!)

So really….... is it THAT far ahead of the pack?

(no offense to Bobocel intended)

I look at it this way. Sales like that just go to show how much of a demand something like a flv player has. I’m not surprised, for most of the internet is photos and movies.
